Passionate about demography and modelling?

We are looking for a colleague for population projections and demographic analyses.

Would you like to play a central role in preparing Denmark's official population projection and are you passionate about conducting demographic analyses and developing models that shape the socio-economic debate and political agenda? Now, there is a unique opportunity, as DREAM expands its team within population projections, demographic analyses, and the interplay between population trends and socio-economic development.

DREAM's population projection model is the foundation for the official national population projection, prepared and published annually in collaboration with Statistics Denmark. For DREAM's clients, the model is also a crucial tool for developing counterfactual scenarios to assess the socio-economic consequences of changing demographic assumptions. Furthermore, the population projection serves as the demographic anchor in all of DREAM's other models.

About the Job

The primary tasks focus on developing and maintaining the national population projection model. The model and its methodological foundation are continuously revised. We strive to ensure that the methodology is in line with state-of-the-art principles and is based on solid knowledge within the field of demography.

You will also use the model to assist DREAM’s clients, including ministries and interest organizations, in developing counterfactual scenarios to assess the socio-economic consequences of changes in mortality, fertility, and migration patterns.

DREAM also hosts a regional population projection model, which is part of the SMILE microsimulation model. You will play a central part in revising the modeling of demographic behavior at the municipal level, including migration patterns within and across municipal boundaries. The model also offers unique opportunities to gain in-depth knowledge of register data from Statistics Denmark and work with the latest machine learning and data science tools.

DREAM’s macroeconomic models and the SMILE microsimulation model are anchored in population trends from the national projection. Therefore, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other DREAM employees and gain insight into various topic areas that depend on demographic trends. For example, you can explore modeling regarding the population's educational level, labor market participation, morbidity, income, and pensions.

We expect that you:

  • Have proven skills and preferably experience within the field of demographic analyses and projection methods.
  • Hold a strong academic background in a relevant field of social or natural science and have an interest in working with the interplay between demographic trends and socio-economic issues.
